A Vision For a Friend November 22, 2007 "There is a greater view waiting inside for you." That is how we will change the world. Not by force, but by the path of effortlessness. It is easy to attack those one dislikes because they disagree with one's own views on how the world is supposed to work but that is not going to accomplish anything. Mahatma Gandhi - Be the change you want to see in the world. Instead of using force to change others there are three things we can do that are within our power: accept them as they are, invite them to our larger vision of life, and give them the time they need to come to a new way of life. If I am seeking to change another person I will take the path of least resistance, the path of love, as I accept them and invite them to an even greater way which I have in mind for them. "I accept you as you are but I have something even bigger in mind for you." I can only control my own will. Force is only a short-term solution to changing others. Although force is necessary when others may cause immediate harm to themselves or others, it should be a secondary method for bringing a person to a better way of life. Accept those who you wish to change, work on your own unconditional love so that you may fully accept them as they are, and seldom use force except when necessary for quick short-term results. To change a person one needs two things: love and a visible wish for that person to live a greater life. Let that person know about who you believe he or she can become. Then accept them and love them as they begin to work towards becoming that new person. It will take time but anything is possible with love. Joshua Schwarz |
