The Secret May 7, 2007 The Secret is a book and DVD of the same name written by Rhonda Byrne and released in 2006. It talks about what it calls the secret of life, the Law of Attraction. This law simply states that like attracts like, and you drawing places, people, and circumstances to yourself based on your predominant mental attitude. Since your thoughts cause you to act, you can change your life by changing how you think. Inspired by Wallace Wattles' book, The Science of Getting Rich, which talks about a certain way of doing things that will lead to success and happiness, Rhonda came out of a tough time in her life and went on to create The Secret. The book suggests that by thinking in the right way, you will bring creative energies together to bring about what you are thinking about. It also suggests that the universal supply by which all creation comes from wants you to make the most of yourself, and anything in praise of poverty cannot overpower the fact that you must have money to attain the things needed to reach your full potential. By providing for yourself you will abundantly overflow and automatically supply for others. Take faith in the invisible supply of good that is to come your way. The Science of Getting Rich, like The Secret, also mentions expressing gratitude for everything you already have. Know that you are abundantly provided for, have faith that all good things will come to you, and go out into the world and accomplish whatever it is you choose. One last point mentioned of interest is the power of the will. You need not influence anyone else to achieve your own success. Have self-control over your own spirit so you can do what it is you want to do. Once you lose all fear of loss or lack knowing that all will end well, you can ACT and create any change in your life that you desire. The Secret and related works present some very interesting ideas relating to personal development. However, all of its ideas should not be accepted as true. Only after careful consideration of The Secret, or any other beliefs for that matter, should they be accepted as truth.
