What Lies Ahead January 12, 2007 I am thrilled that you have decided to reach for the abundant life that rightfully belongs to you and I would like to get you on the fast track to attaining it. Everything you want to achieve is only a single identity shift away. Most people accomplish goals by finding the steps that are needed to get from point A to point B. For example, if you want more wealth in your life you may decide that you must work longer hours to receive more pay. Or if you want happiness, you may decide that you need to eliminate situations in your everyday life that cause you grief. However, when you only look for the events needed to achieve your goal, you are only walking alongside the river of life. Sure, the steps are important, but you are the same person as you were before if you do not pursue any other methods. The truth is, a person that has accomplished your goal is very different than you. They have a different identity. If you were that person, you would accomplish your goal with little effort. You would not need to force it into existence because it would naturally come to you. Everything you have achieved so far is a result of your identity, the portrait of your character. When you fight against the world, life is hard and tiring. For instance, if you are a shy person you may decide to promise yourself that you will be friendlier and talk to more people from now on. That is how you get from point A to point B. But who is that person that has already made it to point B? You cannot simple follow the steps and hope that your goal will come to pass. You must become the person that has already achieved your goal. You need to live as if you have already achieved it. A second example is that of an entrepreneur trying to begin a new business. You may know everything you need to do to bring in a profit, track your finances, and advertise your service or product but that is only half of the journey. You know at what point of the river of life that you must be at, but you have not yet gotten your feet wet. You are not the person in the river that has achieved your goal. So how do you become the person that has accomplished your goal? First, believe you can do it. Do not ever limit yourself by a lack of self-confidence. Second, never let someone limit you by telling you who you should be. You are not here to please everyone, so be the person that you want to be without fear of rejection by others. And finally, leave the past behind. It is who you were at point A, before you decided to begin to achieve your goal. Every time you want to achieve something you should look for who you will be once it comes to pass. It may sound silly, but this means that to be happy, you must be a happy person. To succeed as an entrepreneur, you must be a successful entrepreneur. That is the hard part. It is not clear how to find who you need to be to achieve your goal but if you search your character it may become easier as time goes on. What do you lack? Is it courage, confidence, or maybe faith? Once you find what your self-portrait lacks find ways to incorporate it into your life. Then, before you know it, you will have achieved everything you ever wanted to and more. Joshua Schwarz |
